Majietas by Errol Dyers

This song is another great example of the slapdruk approach of playing Mbaqanga in Cape Town. The term Majietas is a slang word used in the townships for “guys, chaps, buddies” and the sincerity of that is evident in the melody. We chose the KouKouWa (2000) album version as the one we wanted to convey.

This high-fidelity master features the complete trio—live drums, walking bass, and soulful keys—interweaving in a tight, authentic South African Jazz pocket. Perfect for live musicians to use as a reference for phrasing, arrangement, and capturing the specific “Mahogany Studio” swing before diving into the individual stems.
