Madiba by Alvin Dyers

Written as a tribute to Nelson Mandela using his clan name Madiba as the title. The song favours a Mbqanga feel with a slapdruk (Afrikaans for ‘lazy push’) favoured in Western Cape region. We based our performance on Wesley Street (2000) album which featured the notable Eddie Jooste on fretless bass guitar

This “No Drums” version leaves the rhythmic pocket entirely to you, backed by the authentic, high-fidelity bass and keyboard stems from the original session. Designed for live drummers to work on their feel, dynamic sensitivity, and traditional Jazz patterns alongside world-class session players.
