JIKA South African Jazz Series
The intended purpose of the JIKA series is primarily focused on the education of South African Jazz by school students, university students, music professionals and music enthusiasts alike. The musicians who were selected to record the instruments for the JIKA! backtrack series are phenomenal musicians who’s groove/feel, authenticity, accuracy and care was crucial to making the tracks feel as real as possible. We have created bespoke mixes to cover the needs of most people who would like to use the backtracks.
After 25 years of performances and tours with several South Africa Jazz legends like Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Hotep Galeta and Alvin Dyers (to name a few!), Shaun Johannes has gained insider knowledge into the performance characteristics of playing the music and music genres by these and countless other artists that make up the South African Jazz songbooks. Decades of teaching these music genres coupled with both a master’s and PhD degree, he is particularly empowered with the knowledge and research to be able to present backtracks for you to learn from and enjoy. The backtracks were recorded at incredibly high audio standards but with a focus on making the tracks feel as authentic as possible as if you were playing with the original artists themselves. The series continues soon with new volumes of essential South African repertoire. 🎙️ Check out JIKA Vol 1 now.
